CROSSFIT GAMES UPDATE: KRISTI ERAMO DECLINES HER INVITE
Kristi Eramo is one of my favorite Games athletes. She is good at everything, humble, and always seems to be happy and positive. She is an athlete I have come to follow rather closely and root for at every opportunity. Although Kristi has qualified for the 2019 CrossFit Games, Eramo announced yesterday that she has declined her invite to this year's Reebok CrossFit Games.
I respect the hell out of this decision. Taking to Instagram, Kristi reported that she secured her bid rather early in the season, yet another season focused on nothing but getting to the Games. She said she then re-evaluated things and realized she just wasn't in a place where she felt the Games was the right plan for her this year. She didn't sight any particular injuries or drawbacks, but more mental and physical health and well being.
I think this is incredibly awesome. My girl Kristi just wasn't feeling it, she knew it wasn't her year and her whole mind, body, and soul weren't in it this year, so she backed out. Rather than go and half-ass it, finish poorly or get injured, she gave her spot to someone ready to throw down. Now, she will spend the better part of a year resting, training, and growing stronger relationships with the people in her life. I wish more people would understand that this is a necessary part of life. Sometimes, we need to just step back and breath man. Our hats off to Kristi Eramo for the strength of her decision. We hope to see you back next year, but until then, feel like going on a trip?!
