CROSSFIT GAMES UPDATE: HOW DO WE FEEL ABOUT THE CUTS?

The Games has just ended, and it isn't without a bit of controversy. Personally, I loved the Games this year and thought they were closer to perfect than they have ever been. But that's just my opinion; many other people feel cuts were unfair in this year's Games. Let's dive in.

The first two workouts brought about major cuts, all of which were expected, not too many shockers. The cuts continued after every workout, in total cutting the field to 75, 50, 40, 30, 20, and then finally 10. That's a lot of cuts, but a lot of opportunities to demonstrate your fitness, in my humble opinion.

The cut that everyone is whining about was the cut form 20 to 10. The workout prior to this elimination was a sprint course tournament that was super fun to watch but was clearly one dimensional. Either you’re fast, or you’re not. Unfortunately, some big names who aren't known for their speed were left outside of the top 10. Meanwhile, a few big names on both the men's and women's side were cut due to penalty. These athletes were sniped for stepping on the line, a clear violation punished with a 10-second penalty.

Between the slowpokes and the penalties, there were some BIG names that did not move on, and people are pretty butt hurt about it. To be honest, I don't mind. These athletes come across to me as entitled, and inflexible. This is the CrossFit Games. You need to be prepared for anything, and every workout matters. Those who were on the bubble going into the 20-10 cut were there because of a lack of execution in the previous FIVE workouts.

This is a new era, my people. It is time to put up or shut up. I am so excited to see these athletes bounce back next year, and hit it with reckless abandon. The Games have changed forever, and there is no going back. But, take solace in knowing the new structure absolutely kicks ass, and get excited for the open in a few short months!
