CROSSFIT GAMES UPDATE: 20.3 STRATEGY

20.3 was announced last night and it's a repeat! A quite controversial one, in my opinion. More on that later, but first the workout:

21 deadlifts, 225 lbs / 155 lbs
21 handstand push-ups
15 deadlifts, 225 lbs / 155 lbs
15 handstand push-ups
9 deadlifts, 225 lbs / 155 lbs
9 handstand push-ups
21 deadlifts, 315 lbs / 205 lbs
50-ft. handstand walk
15 deadlifts, 315 lbs / 205 lbs
50-ft. handstand walk
9 deadlifts, 315 lbs / 205 lbs
50-ft. handstand walk

Time cap: 9 min.

This is an obvious repeat from 18.3 and should be a fun test for everyone who did this workout back then. Hopefully, you are more fit, capable, and ready to wreck it.

If I were coaching ya up for this workout, I would advise you to pace and know your strength. Unless you are elite, you will be far better at either the handstand push-ups or the deadlifts. Typically, if you are a monster at pulling deads, you aren't really a handstand push-up-ing bodyweight monster. The same goes for the other way around as well.

So, know your weaknesses, and attack this smart while flourishing with your strengths. If the deads are light, rip through them, and then take a measured handstand approach, small sets. If you can rip the handstands go for broke, and take a measured approach to the deads with small sets. As for the handstand walk, either ya have it or ya don't. Rest when you need to, stay tight, and fight for it.

One additional note about this workout: the handstand push up standard is still the same. For many, this was a non-issue, but for many others, it was a huge controversy. Remember, this was the workout that caused Jacob Hepner (a body way guru) to actually miss regionals because he could not hit the standard. I wonder how that will play a factor this year among the elite.

It should be a fun ride! Good luck. Post your time in the comments!
