2020 Year in Review

Not much happened…….Thanks for stopping by.

Well, wait. We should say something right?

The year started out innocently enough with January being a month, followed by one of the VoyEdge Rx staple trips to Costa Rica in February. While this trip is one of the originals and definitely one that we know well, things can still happen that we do not expect and that they did. While on the road to Puerto Viejo, unfortunately, there was a very bad car accident which led us to a detour and traffic backed up for hours. Things like this happen while traveling and it is all part of the story that we share at the end of the trip and beyond.

The rest of the trip was another amazing experience with surfing, visits to the local communities to make chocolate, waterfall treks, and visiting the animal sanctuary. This trip is usually more than just a vacation to a fun beach and the jungle.  A lot of what we do supports the local people and who you are supporting is usually right in front of your face not only as you purchase something, but as they tell you stories about their life and culture. Looking back at this trip, we are confident that the travelers were able to relax and slow down a little bit during the week.

Coming off of a trip like that is a huge motivation and momentum builder. It gets us excited to start the next trip and meet the next group of amazing travelers. We look forward to the great parts of a trip, meeting new people, and working through the parts that are not smooth. Our outlook and momentum heading into May and Rome & Amalfi Coast was riding high.

Then it happened. The world stopped. For the first time in many of our lives, everything just stopped. We could not go anywhere. We were a travel company that could not travel. What were we?

The coming weeks and months were very tough as the dominoes that are the trips toppled over one by one. Having to tell travelers that this year, their dream trip could not happen was grueling. Some days were hard, some were harder. Sprinkle in a few days of lying in the fetal position scrolling through our travel pictures and the outlook early this year was bleak.

In the beginning, we don’t think anyone realized just how serious this was. As the scale of it emerged in the months that came ahead, it was pretty clear that the most important thing was to keep ourselves and our neighbors safe. We worried about our friends who lost jobs. Were bummed when our favorite restaurants and bars had to close. We ordered take-out and pickup to help local businesses. Celebrated birthdays at a distance and found a way to laugh with friends who were down on their luck. It suddenly became clear that the role of VoyEdge Rx this year was not to travel but to give people something to look forward to in the near future.

As this year comes to a close, there is hope poking out from beyond the horizon. The sun is starting to come up again. It is not a time to get complacent and we will keep doing what we can to protect the most vulnerable.

The 2020 version of the travel company VoyEdge Rx, was not entirely based on travel and that’s ok. Instead, it was based on helping each other and trying to be a small part of the light that is at the end of this super long tunnel. We can not wait to hit the world again with you when the time comes.

2020 you are done. (in the distance….*birds chirp*.....*Journey’s greatest hits plays*......*a group of dogs rushes towards you*......life is good)

Happy Holidays from all of us at VoyEdge Rx
