+ TOUR OVERVIEW
Welcome to our Peaks of Peru tour! An exhilarating 11-days, 10-nights through Cusco, Rainbow Mountain, Santa Maria, Santa Teresa, Aguas Calientes, Machu Picchu and of course, Lima.
Peru is bordered by Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile and the Pacific Ocean, making it a megadiverse country when it comes to wildlife and landscapes. Peru is also home to the oldest civilization in the Americas, the Norte Chico tribe, which dates as far back as 3200 BC and is one of the five founding civilizations of the Inca Empire.
Beyond that, Peru is filled with habitats ranging from the arid plains of the Pacific coastal region in the west to the peaks of the Andes mountains vertically extending from the north to the southeast of the country to the tropical Amazon Basin rainforest in the east with the Amazon river.
You can expect a high degree of physical fitness required with this tour as major elevation (as much as 17,000 feet) comes into play during the Rainbow Mountain hike. Although you will be flying into Cusco to acclimate, there is a degree of difficulty with adjusting to elevation. Water and hydration will be key factors on this tour, as this is arguably one of the biggest, baddest and most intense tours VoyEdge RX has put forth.
All pick ups, drop offs, breakfasts, four lunches, seven dinners, transportation, accommodation and activities (See below) are included in this tour, as well as a regional flight from Cusco to Lima.
Keep reading on, but this is one epic tour you won't want to miss!

Today is arguably the best one of the trip and one you’ve been waiting for. We will ascend to the incredible historic sight of Machu Picchu, which sits at an elevation of 7,792 feet above sea level.
Machu Picchu is an Incan citadel set high in the Andes Mountains in Peru, above the Urubamba River valley and was built in the 15th century and later abandoned for unknown reasons. It is world renowned (and a UNESCO World Heritage site) and known for its sophisticated dry-stone walls that fuse huge blocks without the use of mortar, intriguing buildings that play on astronomical alignments and constellations, while providing incredible panoramic views and stargazing.
Its exact use remains a mystery to this day but is visited 5,000 people a day (on average) and over 1,000,000 people a year!
We will enjoy a guided tour of this 500-year old historic site before trekking back down and taking a train back to central Cusco where our accommodations await us before taking the night to explore the surrounding area. If time allows, visit the local marketplace next to the train station before taking the train to Ollantaytambo. From there, we will take a bus back to Cusco, where we will be dropped at our hotel.
Get some rest because tomorrow you will fly back to Lima for the last full day of the tour!
Fun fact: Llamas were invaluable to the Inca Empire, which stretched across Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and Ecuador and were used for their wool and nutrient-rich poop to fertilize crops at high altitudes. Llamas are related to the camel family and grow up to be twice the size of an Alpaca! They were important resources for the Incas who did not have domesticated animals such as horses, goats or sheep. They are also found everywhere around Machu Picchu.
